Basswood

Basswood is a soft, light-colored hardwood with a fine, even texture and very little visible grain. It carves cleanly and holds detail, so it's the first choice for carvers, and it also works well for models, drawer parts and painted projects. We carry it in 4/4 and in 8/4 for thicker carving blanks, sold by the board foot.
