Sapele

Sapele is an African hardwood in the mahogany family, a rich reddish brown that darkens with age. Quarter sawn boards show its well-known ribbon stripe. It works and finishes much like mahogany and is used for furniture, cabinetry, doors, stair parts and trim; the interlocked grain can tear out, so plane with light passes. We carry it in 4/4, 5/4, 6/4 and 8/4 and in thin 1/4" stock, in select and better (S&B) and quarter sawn. Imported, and sold by the board foot.
