White oak is strong and hard-wearing, light to medium brown, and its closed pores make it more resistant to moisture than red oak. Quarter sawn boards show the ray fleck prized in Arts and Crafts furniture. It's used for furniture, cabinets, stair parts, trim and flooring. Kiln dried and surfaced three sides (S3S), in 4/4, 5/4, 6/4 and 8/4, sold by the board foot, plus 1/2" stock sold by the square foot; FAS, select and better (S&B), shorts and quarter sawn.
