Five mantel styles, stocked and ready
Saint Charles Hardwoods keeps five wood fireplace mantels in regular stock, each in 60" and 72" lengths, with custom lengths on request:
- Classic Mantel: our most traditional shelf profile, in birch or red oak, ready for stain or paint.
- Whitmore Mantel: a shelf mantel dressed with dentil crown moulding under the shelf, in birch or red oak, for a more formal room.
- Hollow Rough Box Mantel: a box beam built from rough-sawn wood, with the texture and grain of a solid timber but hollow inside, so it weighs less and is easier to hang. Birch, red oak or a species you choose.
- Hollow Smooth Box Mantel: the same hollow construction with a smooth, clean surface that shows off the grain. Birch, red oak or a species you choose.
- Distressed Pine Mantel: pine worked by hand with ridges, marks and wear so it reads like reclaimed timber. No two are quite alike.

Mantel questions
Do you have fireplace mantels in stock?
Yes. We regularly stock five styles in 60" and 72" lengths: the Classic and Whitmore shelf mantels, rough and smooth hollow box mantels, and a distressed pine mantel. Custom lengths are available on all of them.
Can you make a custom mantel?
Yes. Give us the length, height and depth you need, the species and the look (a shelf with a profile, a box beam, rough or smooth), and we'll quote it. A photo of the room and the surround helps.
What's a box mantel, and can it look like it's floating?
A box mantel is built as a hollow box, so it looks like a solid beam at a fraction of the weight. That makes it easier to hang, and when it's fixed to a hidden cleat on the wall there are no visible brackets, the "floating mantel" look.
