Wenge

Wenge is a very dark African hardwood, dark brown to nearly black with fine, lighter streaks and a straight, coarse grain. It's hard and heavy, and makes striking contrast pieces: accent strips, boxes, inlay, cutting board details and furniture. It can splinter, so handle it with care and sand well before finishing. Imported, and sold by the board foot.
